About Sophie
My passion for English Literature flourished during my study of the subject at my secondary school in the Midlands, where I achieved 3 A*s at A level. Following this, I studied English Literature at University College London. I wrote my final dissertation on the mastery of Samuel Beckett’s stage directions in a range of his plays. After graduating from UCL with a high 2.1, I gained a place at King’s College London, where I completed my MA in Contemporary Literature, Culture and Theory and was awarded a Distinction. Subsequent to this, I gained a place on Teach First’s Leadership Development Programme as a Secondary school English teacher in North London. Alongside my English teaching, I am also in charge of careers, extracurricular clubs and work experience at my school. I am passionate about teaching and opening up opportunities for students of all backgrounds, because I believe that every child deserves a fair opportunity to be able to succeed. In my spare time, I enjoy engaging in sports activities, including yoga, running and swimming. I also love visiting art galleries and museums - the Tate Modern is my favourite!

My lessons seek to improve students' fluency, competence and enjoyment of both reading and writing. These skills will support them to interpret language and communicate effectively, as well as to excel in English language and literature exams. I have experience supporting students to get top grades with a range of exam boards (OCR, AQA and Edexcel). I have also been an AQA examiner for English Language and Literature for three years. I have a PGDE in English teaching and I am specialised in supporting students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (including dyslexia, autism, EAL and speech, language and communication needs). Lessons are 60-90 minutes long and open to students from KS2 up to KS5 seeking to improve their English skills.
