About Martha
I am originally from Memphis, TN, and graduated from Mississippi State with a master's in education and a bachelor's in counseling education. I am married to a Math teacher and Gifted and Talented specialist who has been in the public school system for 30 years. We moved to Texas in 2005 to be near family. We have a dachshund named Wrigley, Tacoma. Wrigley is named after Wrigley Field in Chicago, one of my husband's favorite places, and Tacoma, named after Tacoma, Washington, one of my favorite places. Oh, and something special about me: I am an identical twin, and we live in the same neighborhood. When I am not working, I love to read nonfiction books, practice my photography skills, watch documentaries, and enjoy the summer sun.

My lessons are engaging and interactive, and often incorporate problem-solving and higher-level thinking, helping the student grasp the basic concepts being taught. It is important to go beyond worksheets to engage students, bringing in topics they find interesting. I often incorporate music and games as well as reinforcement of learned concepts. I will meet you where you are, and we won't move forward until you feel comfortable with what is being taught and have a full understanding. I am a genuine, patient, and caring teacher who puts your needs first.

Details
Why are my rates higher? My prices are based on a contractual rate with Superprof. As with all 1099 contractors, I am required by federal law to pay up to 40% in taxes, including 100 % income tax and 100% social security to the IRS on quarterly payments.
At $35 an hour, I will net $21 an hour for your session.
