About Joana
I’m passionate about educating and inspiring people through music. My hope is for all students to find joy in playing and sharing the beauty of music with others around.
I teach private saxophone lessons to all ages, all levels of learning welcomed! Each lesson is developed according to each student’s needs, interests and personal goals. I believe that working uniquely with each student is essential in providing lessons that are both a rewarding and creative experience. I provide various materials, recordings and exercises to help student's individual practice.
The classes can be led in my private studio in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal or online (in Portuguese, Spanish or English).

Joana Sá (1998) is a Portuguese saxophonist passionate about education. Along with her performing activity, Joana is a music teacher, teaching saxophone lessons in her private studio, and chamber music classes in Conservatório de Caldas da Rainha.
In 2019, Joana completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Saxophone Performance at Lisbon Superior School of Music, where she is currently doing her Master’s Degree in Music Education, specialization in Saxophone and Chamber Music.
She has also had the privilege of playing for renowned saxophonists in private lessons and masterclasses, including Vincent David, Timothy McAllister, Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Rob Buckland, Kenneth Tse, Mario Marzi, Gerard McChrystal, Preston Duncan, Albert Juliá, Nicolas Prost, Fabrice Moretti, Yiannis Miralis, Joaquín Franco, Mário Marques, and Fernando Ramos.
An active chamber musician, Joana is a member of Solar Plexus Duo, a sax and cello duo focused on the performance of new music. She plays in various ensembles, such as ESML Saxophone Project (saxophone ensemble), ClusterLab (mixed ensemble) and Laboratório de Música Mista JLF (electroacoustic and improvised music). She also collaborates with classical woodwind orchestras and different chamber music groups, as well as other artists in multidisciplinary performances.
As an advocate for today’s music, Joana is constantly working with composers in the creation of new repertoire for saxophone, exploring new sound possibilities of the instrument. While enhancing the interaction between performer and composer, she has premiered several new pieces.
Joana has performed in several music festivals notably Midwest Clinic (Chicago, USA); Creative Fest; Festival Música Viva; Festival DME – Dias de Música Eletroacústica; Reencontros de Música Contemporânea; Festival Internacional de Saxofone de Palmela; MWood’Art Festival Internacional de Madeiras; Cistermúsica, among others. She has also performed in non-music related contemporary art festivals notably Guimarães Noc Noc and BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts.
