For those students in grades k-5. I teach using the science of reading method. This consists of letter sound recognition, beginning with individual letters and moves on to vowel teams, r-controlled vowels and so forth. This gives the student who may be a little behind in their reading skills, the ability to understand how phonetics work, enabling them to use their newly learned skills to decipher words they do not know.
