Why I teach:
I tutor my younger sister sometimes, and it's where I first noticed that a student can sit through class every day and still have real gaps no one's caught ~ the syllabus moves on, but the confusion doesn't. I struggled with math myself early on, mostly because it was taught in a way that made it feel intimidating rather than logical. That's stuck with me, I don't want a student to associate the subject with fear before they've even understood it.

-Before jumping into the syllabus, I spend the first session figuring out where the student's understanding actually broke down — often it's not the current chapter, it's something a year or two back that never clicked
-I explain the why behind formulas, not just the steps. E.g., for fractions, instead of "flip and multiply" for division, I show why dividing by half means the answer gets bigger — using something they can picture, like splitting food
