About Michelle

About Me as a Tutor
Helping Students Find Their Voice, Build Their Skills, and Believe in Their Abilities

As a published author and tutor, I am committed to creating a learning environment where every student feels respected, supported, encouraged, and confident in their ability to succeed. I understand that asking for academic help can sometimes feel intimidating, which is why I make it my priority to create a comfortable and judgment-free experience from the very first lesson.

My strengths include creative writing, essay writing, grammar, spelling, sentence structure, proofreading, editing, and developing ideas into well-organized written work. I enjoy helping students take their thoughts and turn them into writing that is clear, meaningful, and reflective of their own voice.

I believe professionalism starts with being prepared, dependable, patient, respectful, and genuinely invested in each student’s progress. I take every student’s goals seriously and approach each lesson with the intention of providing useful instruction rather than simply completing an assignment for them.

A Personalized Learning Experience
No two students are exactly alike. Some students learn best through examples, while others benefit from hands-on practice, repetition, conversation, or visual explanations. That’s why I don’t rely on a single teaching style.

I take the time to understand where a student is academically and identify the areas where they need the most support. Then, I adjust my lessons and techniques to meet them where they are.

My students can expect:
Clear and easy-to-understand explanations
Patient, supportive instruction
Personalized lessons based on individual needs
Constructive feedback without judgment
Step-by-step assistance with challenging concepts
Opportunities to practice independently
Encouragement to ask questions
Support with building confidence and independence
Respect for each student’s individual learning pace
I Teach! Not Just Correct!

One of the most important parts of my tutoring philosophy is that I don’t want students to simply receive corrections. I want them to understand the reason behind those corrections.

If a student makes a grammatical mistake, struggles to organize an essay, or has difficulty developing an idea, I explain the concept and demonstrate strategies they can use in the future.

My goal is for students to eventually look at their own work and recognize what needs improvement without always needing someone else to tell them.

Building Confidence Through Progress
Academic growth isn’t always about getting everything right immediately. Sometimes progress begins with having someone who believes you are capable of improving.

I celebrate progress, encourage questions, and create opportunities for students to recognize their own accomplishments. I want students to understand that making mistakes is a normal part of learning not something they should be ashamed of.

Whether you’re looking for help with a single assignment, trying to strengthen your writing skills, or looking for long-term academic support, I am committed to providing a professional and personalized tutoring experience.

You don’t have to be a perfect writer to become a better writer. You just need the right guidance, practice, and encouragement.

My goal is to provide that guidance while helping every student become a stronger, more confident, and more independent learner.

My Approach as a Tutor
My approach as a tutor is centered around one simple belief: every student learns differently, and effective teaching begins with understanding the individual student. Rather than using the same teaching method for everyone, I take the time to identify a student’s current skill level, learning style, strengths, challenges, and personal goals. From there, I create a learning experience that is both personalized and encouraging.

My goal is not simply to give students the correct answers. I want to help them understand how and why something works so they can develop the confidence and skills to eventually do it independently.

How I Share My Knowledge
I share my knowledge through clear explanations, practical examples, guided practice, and interactive learning. When teaching writing, grammar, spelling, or essay development, I break complicated concepts into smaller, easier-to-understand steps.

For example, rather than simply correcting a student’s essay, I explain why a sentence may need to be changed, how to strengthen an argument, how to organize ideas, or how grammar and punctuation affect the way a reader understands their writing.

I encourage students to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes without feeling embarrassed or discouraged. I want my students to feel comfortable expressing themselves and developing their own voice.

My Teaching Method & Techniques
My teaching method combines personalized instruction, guided practice, active learning, and constructive feedback.

Some of the techniques I use include:
Assessment: I begin by determining what the student already knows and where they need additional support.
Personalized instruction: Lessons are adapted to the student’s specific needs rather than following a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach.

Step-by-step instruction: I break larger assignments and difficult concepts into manageable sections.
Examples and demonstrations: I use examples to show students how to apply concepts in real situations.
Guided practice: I work alongside students before gradually allowing them to complete tasks independently.
Interactive questioning: I ask questions that encourage students to think critically rather than simply memorize information.

Writing exercises: Students practice grammar, spelling, sentence construction, paragraphs, creative writing, and essay development.

Constructive feedback: I explain both what a student is doing well and what they can improve.

Revision techniques: Students learn how to review, edit, and strengthen their own work.

Confidence building: I celebrate progress and encourage students to recognize their own growth.

A Typical Lesson Plan
Each lesson is personalized, but a typical session may follow this structure:

1. Check-In & Goal Setting — 5–10 Minutes
We begin by discussing how the student is doing, what they are currently working on, and what they want to accomplish during the lesson.

2. Review — 5–10 Minutes
We briefly review previously learned material to make sure the student understands the foundation before moving forward.

3. New Lesson — 15–20 Minutes
I introduce the day’s topic and explain it in a simple, understandable way. Depending on the student’s needs, this could involve grammar, spelling, sentence structure, essay writing, creative writing, vocabulary, or another writing-related skill.

4. Guided Practice — 15–20 Minutes
We work through examples together. I demonstrate the process first and then allow the student to participate while providing guidance when needed.

5. Independent Practice — 10–15 Minutes
The student applies what they have learned independently. This allows me to see what they understand and where additional support may be needed.

6. Feedback & Correction — 5–10 Minutes
We review the work together. Instead of simply pointing out mistakes, I explain how to identify and correct them.

7. Recap & Next Steps — 5 Minutes
We summarize what was learned, identify areas of improvement, and establish what the student should continue practicing before the next lesson.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What sets me apart is my commitment to teaching the student, not just teaching the subject.

I understand that a student may struggle with writing for many different reasons. They may have difficulty organizing their thoughts, understanding grammar rules, developing ideas, expressing themselves, or simply having confidence in their abilities.

Instead of assuming that a student isn’t capable, I look for the approach that helps them understand.

I also believe that writing should not feel like simply following a list of rules. Writing is a form of communication and self-expression. Whether a student is writing an academic essay, a creative story, or a simple paragraph, I want to help them develop their own voice while learning the technical skills necessary to communicate effectively.

My tutoring style is patient, encouraging, creative, and adaptable. I meet students where they are and help them progress from there.

Most importantly, I want students to leave each lesson feeling like they have learned something new, accomplished something meaningful, and are more confident than when they started.

My ultimate goal is not to make students dependent on a tutor. It is to give them the knowledge, strategies, and confidence they need to become stronger, more independent writers and learners.
My lessons are tailored for middle school aged students to adult students wanting to improve in the area.
