About Kayla
Kayla's motto is "write you!" as she believes that writing is a skill—something anyone can learn. Although focused and professional, most people find they can relax with her. Kayla is an attentive listener and very supportive. Using the student's/client's own writing or the blank page, she takes each learner from the bones (original idea and structure) of writing to its skin (style and voice). She explains theory, writing conventions, what she is doing, why, and offers clear helpful guidance. She prefers to ask questions, when appropriate, so the student/client can build their own knowledge base about their writing. She builds custom lessons or develops current writing projects based on each client's or student's needs/goals. She works with teens (ages 14 to 18) and adults (19 and up). Her in-person and online sessions are safe spaces. Kayla works with creatives, students, and professionals at all English writing levels.

As Moncton's first Anglophone Poet laureate Kayla's artistic gifts are academically proven.
Kayla is also a gifted teacher.
Her writing workshops are beautiful, I felt encouraged and supported in developing my own poetic voice as an immigrant to Canada.
She has a great sense of humour and is approachable.
Kayla is multidimensional, authentic and uses her gifts to mentor and engage community and diversity across many disciplines.
I recommend Kayla 100%, an amazing writer and person.
Hello all, I took a poetry Masterclass taught by Kayla a couple of years ago and it was a fantastic learning experience. I still do poetry to this day and I presented one of my poems at the local poetry reading/slam poetry event. I still have a lot to learn, but Kayla put me on the right trajectory. And that is what I needed. Direction. Thank you Kayla. You're awesome!
Last year I was privileged to participate in Kayla's Poetry course. The introduction to poets from multiple cultures and the discussion of their poems was inspirational. Kayla teaches collaboratively. She is purposeful in validating each person's work and sets clear guidelines for feedback. I never witnessed or felt any shaming in her class and this speaks to Kayla's affirmative style. Kayla provided helpful editing questions and prompts on work we submitted every week which contributed to my getting some poetry nearer to completion. That in itself speaks to my recommending Kayla's teaching.
I took an intensive 8 week Masterclass in poetry designed and taught by Kayla. I entered the class with much apprehension and insecurity as an adult student. Kayla immediately put me at ease with her inclusive approach. She created a safe environment for all the participants which is so important to creative writing. The class was intentionally small in number to allow for lots of individual attention. Kayla was always generous with her time and supportive with her comments but she was also thoughtful and firm with her critiques—a perfect learning environment.
Kayla requires the best of people and has an amazing ability to then bring it out of them.
Approximately four years ago, a friend recommended Kayla Geitzler to me when I needed an editor for a collection of poetry. We began to work together and my skills as a poet have "greatly improved", according to her. When the opportunity arrived to take a Master Class, I did so and many since. Kayla is honest, suggests improvements, points out when a line in a poem needs unpacking - more detail, I've learned though it took awhile to sink in. She has a great sense of humour.
In class, she provided a safe space for commenting on the work of others, and made it clear, that that was an ongoing expectation. In her classes, she introduced me to international poets, a very enriching experience.
Based on my experiences with Kayla, I highly recommend her.
I have been taking lessons from Kayla, as well as using her as an editor, for the past several years. With her help I have become a better writer, and more importantly, have been able to look at my writing critically and re-examine it. My writing has come a long ways from what it was and I have her to thank for it. I cannot think of anyone else who could be a better teacher when it comes to writing. She is simply the best.
Kayla’s feedback for my writing is thorough and positive. She has empowered me to believe that what I have to say in my poetry is important and that I have a voice. Thank you, Kayla!
Kayla was our Writer In Virtual Residence with Elgin Writers Guild. She quickly tunes into her students, the level at which they are operating and their aspirations. She has high standards but makes learning fun! I asked her to apply the next year for the same position but unfortunately her calendar was full. I have no hesitation in recommending Kayla.
I had seen and read her writings before and wondered if she would help me write about my life. With no hesitation Kayla was prepared to assist with examples - many many examples - and after many written homework she provided me with what I needed most of all - the confidence to continue writing. She is a very attentive teacher, guide and instructor and I would recommend her to any one in need of writing assistance.
Kayla’s passion for writing and literature glows in her interaction with others. She was the reason I embarked on my literary journey in Canada (despite being a native Arabic author) and she encouraged and supported my attempt at creative writing in English. She has been a great resource and support in pursuing new ideas in sharing poetry within a multicultural context.
