About Siân
I'm a professional guitarist, singer and songwriter with over 15 years of experience as a performer, as a solo artist and playing in bands. I graduated from Leeds Conservatoire (fka Leeds College of Music) in 2013 and since then have made my living as a professional musician, teaching in schools across London and performing with bands in a wide range of genres. I tour and release my own music with my band Gold Baby – I'm the lead guitarist, lead singer and the sole songwriter for this project. I also perform as a solo artist. Here are some highlights, or things I think you might like to know... I actually started out playing the flute when I was a kid, before I ever picked up a guitar, which gave me a great foundational understanding of musical notation and music theory. I specialised in songwriting and performance when studying my music degree, and I graduated with a first. Whoop! During my time teaching, I have worked in a whole range of settings – I was a band coach for School of Rock and Pop, coaching 11-16 years in both playing their instruments (including bass, keys and drums) and performing together as a band; I've taught guitar to children and teenagers with SEN including ASD and VI (visual impairment); I was the head of music at a summer camp in Maine, USA when I was 19; I've taught whole-class guitar, whole-class percussion and taught the primary music curriculum in many educational settings across the years and have even taught music in nurseries! In the last few years I have learnt to produce my own music, so I have a great understanding of arranging, recording and mixing your own material. Lastly, I LOVE songwriting. Whilst songwriting isn't for everyone, I believe learning to play music should equip you with the tools to make music too, and I love to encourage this in students who are keen!

Everybody learns in different ways and with different goals in mind, and so my approach will be tailored to you, your music taste and where you want your musical journey to take you! I offer tuition in electric guitar, acoustic guitar, singing and songwriting. I am happy to teach a combination of these, or focus on one but with elements of another – for example, if you are an electric guitarist who would like to work on songwriting, or you would like to learn to sing and play acoustic guitar at the same time (this was my goal, when I started out!) My lessons will be centred around learning songs that you love from the get-go, with an underpinning of theory and technical knowledge but a focus on having fun. I love working with students to find what motivates them and help them to build a consistent practice that feels rich and rewarding. I am happy to teach in a wide range of popular genres, from pop, rock and soul to folk, country and more – speak to me about what you love and we'll see if it's a good fit. I am happy to teach all ages and all abilities. I have a full and up-to-date DBS certificate and years of experience teaching kids of all ages in schools across London. Learning an instrument can have a positive effect on so many areas of our life and has the potential to make us happier, healthier humans and I'm interested in helping pupils to develop this kind of positive relationship with music that has helped me so much in my own life.
