About Justin
I began learning music as a child from my mother. I taught myself by immitation and trial and error. I took AP music theory in HS as well as Jazz band. In HS I got my first Sitar and had an obvious knack for it. I began listening to more ICM via recordings and concerts and rejected several grreat masters before finding my teacher.
I have been learning Sitar with Ustad Shujaat Khan for over 25 years. I have performed throughout Miami and Miami Beach, LA up to SF, NY and Beijing.
I recently moved to DC from Beijing where I was contiuing to learn from one of my favorite teachers. I was supporting myself there as a teacher and musician. I’m trained as a Doctor and preparing to take the NCCAOM liscensing exam. I am aware that the origin of the word for Doctor includes the meaning teacher.
I have been a teacher most of my life +30 years. I love helping people to learn the basics as well as to discover the deeper secrets of the sitar and music.

I have been learning from Sitar Maestro Ustad Shujaat Khan for over 25 years and have a wealth of information and skill that I feel compeled to share and passsionate about sharing.
I will ensure you finf comfort with the basic techniques, know how to tune, restring and maintain your sitar and set you towards performing firstly for your own enjoyment and cultivation and secondly at the highest level of performing for others.
Raga, Tala, Gat, Tan, Tihai, Alap, Jor, Jhala and most importantly trance induction.
These lessons are for anyone who is not my senior of my gharana.
