About Kirste

Hello! I’m Kirste, a professional realism artist and art instructor as well as a composer, musician and piano instructor.

I grew up in an artistic family, and my parents always encouraged me to explore my creativity. Our home often felt like a little museum, surrounded by art and creative inspiration, including my father’s work as a comic artist. That environment helped shape my love of art and the way I approach teaching.

I took advanced, college-level art coursework in high school and have been creating commissioned realism artwork for about 14 years. I enjoy the patience and close observation that realistic art calls for, as well as the many ways artists can experiment with ideas, materials, and approaches.

I also have about seven years of private teaching experience. I’ve worked with students of all different ages from 3 to 85, and have experience supporting students with special needs. I value getting to know each student as an individual and finding an approach that helps them feel comfortable, engaged, and ready to grow.

As an artist and teacher, I believe art can be both enjoyable and skill-building. I love helping students explore their ideas while developing a strong foundation in the techniques behind their work. I’m grateful to have built a life around creativity, and I look forward to sharing that with my students.

Hello! I’m Kirste, a professional realism artist and private art instructor. I offer one-on-one art lessons for children, where students can enjoy making art, explore their own ideas, and build real artistic skills. Projects are tailored to each child’s age, interests, and experience, so we can work on subjects they’re excited about while building strong fundamentals and exploring different media.

A lesson might begin with a quick conversation about what your child would like to make or learn. From there, we can explore a specific skill, such as observing shapes and proportions, using color, creating light and shadow, or arranging a composition, then practice it through a fun, thoughtfully planned project. If your child isn’t sure what they’d like to work on, I can bring a project idea for them.

I want art to feel enjoyable and encouraging while still helping children make real progress. Each student learns differently, so I adapt my explanations and approach to what works for them. Rather than asking students only to copy a finished example, I help them understand how to observe, make artistic choices, and develop their own ideas. My approach is progress over perfection: there’s room to experiment, ask questions, and try again.

These lessons are for children who are new to art as well as those who already love drawing and creating. Whether your child wants to explore new materials, strengthen their fundamentals, or bring an idea of their own to life, we can shape lessons around their goals and interests.

Free Introductory Meeting (30 minutes)

Our first 30 minutes are free and give us a chance to meet and get to know each other before beginning regular lessons. We can talk about your child’s art experience, interests, and goals, what they’d like to learn or create, and any questions or practical details. It also gives me a chance to learn more about your child and how I can best tailor lessons to their needs. For in-person lessons, I ask that we meet virtually before scheduling lessons at my home studio. Online students are welcome to begin lessons without a prior meeting.

Lesson Rate

My standard private art lesson is 60 minutes and costs $50. Shorter lessons may be available by arrangement.

Superprof Lesson Packages

Because Superprof lists packages in five- and ten-hour increments, these align with five or ten standard 60-minute art lessons. A five-hour package ($250) covers five lessons, while a ten-hour package ($500) covers ten lessons.
