About Fiona
I studied at Durham University, gaining a B(Mus) in Music before training as a Soprano at The Royal College of Music with Elizabeth Robson, and then later with Dennis O'Neill at The International Academy of Voice. In 2002 I joined the Chorus of Welsh National Opera and in addition to my Chorus work have had many notable Roles and Covers. These include Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Musetta (La Bohème), Micaela (Carmen), Liu (Turandot), 1st Lady (Magic Flute), Leonora (Il Trovatore) and my role Debut at London's Covent Garden in Moses und Aron. I am currently understudying Mimi in La Bohème for WNO's 22/23 Season. I began teaching 20 years ago and I still get a buzz from sharing my joy and love of singing with others and watching students grow and develop on their musical journey!

I am an Opera Singer, based in Cardiff, with over 20 years experience of performing on the operatic and concert stage. I began teaching whilst working professionally for the Welsh National Opera Chorus and have performed and understudied numerous roles, toured internationally, taken music into retirement homes, schools, restaurants and concert platforms. This has given me a vast knowledge and experience of different situations, with repertoire ranging from grand operatic arias to simple songs, that appeal to all the different audiences you may encounter. It is this knowledge and experience that I would love to share with you as your singing teacher, and with you, create a learning environment that is productive, fun, challenging and rewarding, no matter what your personal goals are. Vocal Instruction In each lesson I will work with you to achieve your personal goals, whether you are a beginner, new to singing and music, or an advanced musician. Lessons will cover: - Development of a healthy technique, allowing for tension free vocal production. Areas covered will include posture, placement, breathing and support. - Music interpretation and stylistic coaching. - Singing in a foreign language (French, German, Italian) if required. - Music theory. I will work to make sure that each lesson works around you and your specific goals in singing. Singing/Music Theory/Piano I specialise in teaching Classical singing technique, and in addition will teach music theory if required, and I also teach for beginners. Exams: I am happy to prepare you for Singing Exams Grade 1-8, Music Theory Grade 1-5 and Piano Grade 1-5. First Lesson: The first lesson is an informal opportunity to get to know each other, assess your goals and your current level of singing experience. I will listen to you sing and then together, moving forward, new repertoire can be chosen, along with vocal and technical exercises, that will start you on your journey towards vocal fulfilment! Beginners: No matter what stage in life you have reached, I passionately believe that singing is a wonderful way to express yourself and brings with it a wealth of positive mental and physical rewards. I welcome beginners of all ages, and am keen to share my joy of singing with you, whether your goal is to take exams, perform professionally, to join a choir, or to simply enjoy the art of singing for yourself!
