About GaKnew
My name is Lanny Wilson, artistically known as GaKnew Roxwel. I’m a professional muralist, 2D animator, and former high school Art & Animation teacher based in Los Angeles, California.
For more than 25 years, I have worked with young people through community-based programs, mentorship, and education while continuing to develop my own artistic practice. My experience includes animation for Paramount Global and independent music videos, teaching visual arts and animation at the high school level, creating public murals, illustrating children’s books, and producing artwork for private clients.
As a working artist, I believe learning extends beyond technique. Art can be a powerful tool for communication, self-expression, storytelling, and community impact. I enjoy helping students develop their skills while also encouraging them to discover their own artistic voice, visual identity, and creative confidence.
My work combines fine art, spray paint muralism, comic book illustration, and Hiphop influenced character design, allowing me to help students explore a variety of artistic approaches. Whether your goal is to improve your drawing and painting abilities, learn aerosol art techniques, build a portfolio, or better understand the creative process, I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
I am passionate about helping students grow as artists and look forward to sharing the knowledge and experience I have gained throughout my creative and professional journey.

My approach to teaching begins with building rapport and understanding each student's goals, interests, and creative motivations. I believe students learn best when they feel supported, understood, and connected to the subject matter. Before focusing on technique, I like to learn what inspires a student, what they hope to create, and what they enjoy most about art. This allows me to tailor lessons to their interests while helping them build confidence and stay motivated throughout the learning process.
As a former high school Art & Animation teacher and professional muralist, I combine structured instruction with creativity, exploration, and real-world artistic experience. Whether a student wants to improve their drawing skills, learn illustration techniques, explore cartooning, develop painting fundamentals, or learn aerosol art, I create lessons that meet them where they are and help them grow at a pace that is both challenging and encouraging.
A typical lesson includes demonstrations of key concepts, guided practice, individualized feedback, and practical exercises that students can continue working on between sessions. As students progress, lessons become increasingly project-based, allowing them to develop a portfolio while discovering their own artistic style and voice.
What sets me apart is my combination of teaching experience and professional artistic practice. I have created murals, illustrations, animations, and community art projects throughout Southern California. Students will practice developing ideas, solving creative challenges, and bringing projects from sketchbook to finished artwork. We’ll think critically about meaning, audience, visual communication, and brand building.
Lessons are available for beginners and intermediate artists of all ages. Whether you are picking up a pencil for the first time, building an art portfolio, pursuing a creative hobby, or interested in learning mural and aerosol techniques, I look forward to helping you develop both your artistic skills and your confidence as a creative person.
