About Iris
I am a professional cellist currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in Cello Performance at the University of Texas at Austin. I have received doctoral-level training at the University of North Texas and hold a Master of Music degree from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor's degree from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China.
With extensive performance experience, competition achievements, and years of teaching experience, I bring both artistic expertise and a thoughtful, individualized approach to cello instruction. My musical background has shaped a strong foundation in technical discipline, expressive musicianship, and a deep understanding of the instrument.
As both a performer and educator, I believe meaningful progress comes from developing healthy playing habits, a solid technical foundation, and effective practice strategies. I emphasize natural, efficient technique, refined sound production, and expressive musicianship, helping students develop confidence and artistic individuality.
My lessons are structured, supportive, and tailored to each student's individual goals, interests, and learning pace. Whether students are discovering the cello for the first time, developing their skills, or exploring more advanced repertoire, I aim to create a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages musical growth, confidence, and individuality.

Reviews
Perfect! Iris is highly observant--I don't know that anything gets by her. She has a strong detail orientation, along with excellent analytic skills. Her ability to pick apart my playing (in the best way), offer suggestions, then review those suggestions with me to help integrate the suggestions in my cello skills was sincerely appreciated. She is excellent!
