  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I developed a passion for music and the violin at a very young age. I started playing the violin when I was just five years old, and I immediately fell in love with the instrument's expressive and emotive qualities. As I continued to study and play the violin throughout my childhood and teenage years, my passion for the instrument only grew stronger.

In college, I pursued a Bachelor of Music degree to deepen my understanding and skills in playing the violin. During my studies, I had the opportunity to learn from some of the most accomplished violinists in the world, and their guidance and mentorship further fueled my passion for the instrument.

Today, as an experienced and award-winning violin teacher, I am grateful for the opportunity to share my love of the violin with others and help them achieve their musical goals. Whether I'm working with a beginner or an advanced player, I am committed to providing personalized and student-centered instruction that inspires and empowers my students to reach their full potential.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

There are several types of music and artists that I can listen to on a loop without ever getting tired of them. As a classically trained musician, I have a deep appreciation for the works of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, and I find myself returning to their music time and time again.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

As a music teacher, I believe that the most difficult and rewarding course that I could give to a student would be one that focuses on music theory and analysis.

Music theory is often seen as a dry and academic subject, but in reality, it is the key to unlocking a deeper understanding and appreciation of music. By studying music theory, students can learn to read and write music, analyze musical structures and forms, and develop a greater sense of musical creativity.

One of the most challenging aspects of teaching music theory is finding ways to make the subject engaging and accessible to students. However, I believe that by breaking down complex concepts into smaller, more manageable pieces, and using a variety of teaching methods, including visual aids, hands-on activities, and interactive discussions, it is possible to make music theory come alive for students of all ages and levels.

By helping students to develop a solid foundation in music theory, they can become more confident and expressive musicians, capable of creating and performing their own music with greater fluency and artistry. Overall, I believe that music theory is an essential component of any comprehensive music education, and I would be thrilled to share my passion for this subject with my students.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

As a music teacher, I believe that every instrument has its own unique challenges and demands, but personally, I think the piano is one of the most complex instruments to master.

The piano requires the player to use both hands simultaneously, with each hand performing different rhythms and melodies. This can be difficult for beginners to coordinate, and even experienced pianists can struggle with playing complex pieces with both hands in sync.

Moreover, playing the piano requires a high level of finger dexterity and strength, as well as an acute sense of touch and sensitivity to tone and dynamics. Unlike some other instruments, the piano does not have a natural range of expression, which means that the pianist must rely on their touch and technique to create a wide range of dynamic and expressive effects.

In addition to the physical demands of playing the piano, there is also a vast and diverse repertoire of music for the instrument. Mastering this repertoire can take many years of dedicated practice and study, as well as a deep understanding of music theory and harmony.

Overall, while every instrument presents its own unique challenges, I believe that the piano is one of the most complex instruments to master due to its technical demands, diverse repertoire, and the need for a high level of musical sensitivity and expression.
  • What are your keys to success?

    Just try.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Yo-Yo Ma - I would love to meet Yo-Yo Ma, one of the greatest cellists of our time, because he has inspired me with his beautiful and innovative performances. I would be interested to hear his thoughts on music education and how he has managed to stay motivated and passionate throughout his career.

Joni Mitchell - Joni Mitchell is a legendary singer-songwriter who has created some of the most iconic and poetic music of the 20th century. I would love to meet her to learn more about her creative process and how she has managed to write such timeless songs that continue to resonate with audiences today.

Quincy Jones - Quincy Jones is a multi-talented musician, composer, and producer who has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry. I would be fascinated to hear about his experiences working with artists like Michael Jackson and how he has managed to stay relevant and innovative throughout his long and distinguished career.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

During my time in music school, I had the opportunity to perform in a chamber music ensemble with three other musicians. We spent weeks rehearsing a piece by Beethoven, perfecting every detail of the performance. However, when we finally played the piece in front of an audience, we made a mistake in the second movement that threw us off for the rest of the piece.

After the performance, we were all disappointed and frustrated with ourselves. Our professor pulled us aside and reminded us that mistakes are a natural part of the learning process and that the most important thing was how we responded to them. He encouraged us to learn from our mistake and use it as an opportunity to improve for the next performance.

This experience taught me the importance of resilience and perseverance in music, as well as the value of having a supportive mentor who can provide guidance and feedback. It also reinforced the idea that music is a continuous process of learning and growth, and that every mistake is an opportunity to improve and become a better musician.
