• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  Western vocals is my main subject—focusing on pop, rock, and soul techniques like dynamic range, runs, and that raw emotional connection. Growing up in Kolkata's bustling lanes, I fell for it when I was in Grade 8 - coming across Enrique Iglesius - my favourite singer at that time. Pairing it with my guitar (which I wanted to learn after listening to a famous local band) turned it into magic. Later on my uncle helped me to get acquainted with the instrument and I have continued learning ever since, in every possible way.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  My motivation? When I was small I was totally negative about becoming a teacher. Then, I got to know that a teacher gets to learn the same thing twice (or even multiple times). My passion for the subject turned me into a teacher. Later on I came across great teachers who were an example to me that teaching can be made fun and enjoyable. I teach to recreate that for others and also empathetically understanding the students' concern helps me grab their perspective much better.

• How does your work help society?

  From Kolkata, my lessons ripple out as free therapy sessions - as I firmly believe that art heals and healing is the first step to learning and developing something. Singing slashes stress (backed by studies on group choirs), builds kids' confidence for school plays, and sparks creativity amid India's competitive grind. It's nurturing a generation of expressive artists.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  There are many names that come to my mind But the one that I will share over here is of Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge. His raw, guitar-backed vocals mirror my style—hard rock, heartfelt lyrics, no frills. Miles Kennedy is one of the first icons that I really admire. Firstly, because of the way he sings. Also, firstly because of the person he is. He is known to be a very kind person on and off stage. His work ethics runs wild - with him obsessing over his Musical endeavours.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  When I'm not teaching I am working on original compositions by myself or with my bandmates. Also I'm heavily invested in self development so I'm into things like yoga and meditation which helps me keep a Mental balance and Clarity.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  There is this girl I have been teaching Vocals for some time. When I connect with her mother over in the PTMs she always mentions how her daughter has improved over time and has developed a sense of confidence about the way she sings and performs in front of an audience without being critical of herself. This hit home—music turns chaos into confidence. and I am sure this can be true for you as well!
