About Tristan
Tristan Jantz is a Los Angeles based performer, producer, songwriter, and educator. He specializes in engaging listeners with emotion and storytelling, be it through lyrics, harmony, production, or improvisation. Tristan’s original songs and collaborations have been streamed over 130k times from Spotify listeners around the globe. On Youtube, his channel, Guitar By Ear, has garnered over 250k views since its inception during the pandemic.
An in-demand guitar accompanist and co-writer for top level vocalists like Becca Hannah and Kaeleigh Spreen, Tristan enjoys helping singers sound their best through tasteful guitar choices that highlight their unique strengths and support them in reaching for new heights.
Before attending Berklee College of Music, Tristan began offering private guitar lessons and voice lessons in the Greater Boston area. Helping adults and children, beginner through advanced, find their sound and self-expression through music is one of his deepest passions. In 2019, Tristan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee with his Bachelor’s in Guitar Performance, and continued to grow his teaching studio and performance resumé in Boston.
Tristan is the founder of the Heart Music Method, which was heavily inspired by his mentor and teacher, jazz guitarist Richie Hart. HMM, is about learning music as a language, and teaching students how to teach themselves directly from the source: their favorite music.
Now based in LA, Tristan continues to perform, write, record, and grow the Heart Music Method. He maintains a selective roster of 1-On-1 online guitar coaching clients from around the globe.

Do any of the following resonate with you?
"I've been feeling stuck in my guitar playing."
"I'm bored on the guitar, everything sounds the same."
"Why don't I sound as good as the recording?"
"Why are others progressing faster than me?"
I've experienced all of these during my guitar journey.
Many teachers offered quick fixes, like a new scale, or new technique. I'd also find some temporary joy in buying new gear.
It still felt like I was trying to stay engaged in a conversation without knowing the language.
The Heart Method, is how I finally started learning the language and became my own teacher in an art form that now feels infinite, exciting, and expressive.
Your 1 on 1 private coaching sessions will be focused on uncovering your deepest music goals, making a plan to get there, and training your ears, mind, and hands, to become the teacher you need to take yourself there. Teach a guitarist to fish, if you will.
The Heart Music Method stands for:
Hearing and Active Listening
Exhilarated by Sound/Excited By Songs
Auditory Imitation
Real Music, Rhythm First
Teach as Student to Fish
Who is the heart method for?
The Heart Music Method is for anyone of any skill level, and any age, who is a serious fan of blues-based music. Rock, jazz, blues, pop, country, funk, American Folk, RnB, Neo-Soul, are just a few examples of blues-based American genres many Heart Method students enjoy.
Is it similar to Suzuki Lessons?
While there are some similarities between the Suzuki and Heart methods, there are several key differences. While both methods prioritize learning music as a language (learning to listen and imitate first, then read and write later), the Heart Method is:
-For learning modern Blues-Based Styles (rather than classical)
-Student focused in terms of curriculum (the lesson plans are unique to each student's goals, rather than following a set book)
-Designed to foster Self-Driven students of all ages (rather than heavy parent involvement for young children.
I maintain a small and selective roster of 1 on 1 coaching clients, so after a brief trial period, I require clients to commit to a weekly time-slot and pay by the month. I am looking for passionate guitarists of any experience level who are committed to elevating their playing.
I also occasionally have openings for Premium Coaching clients. Premium Coaching clients participate in 2 sessions per week (at a discounted rate) and can opt to receive practice video feedback between sessions.
