About Shanta
I am an accredited holder of MFSM( Masters in Financial Services Management) & M.Com degree with Accounts as specialization possessing 12+ years of experience in diverse financial roles with multiple corporate organisations.
In 2015 however, I decided to take a break in my corporate career & pursue my aspirations of career building in the teaching field. The foundation was laid by an opportunity I came across in the news daily, rather a CSR initiative/programme of the Times Group in collaboration with The British Council (knowledge partner)-‘Teach India Programme’. The programme aims to give learners from disadvantaged communities (age group 18-35) the confidence to use English in various sectors of work , enhances employability options to them. The highlights of the programme were; It was a voluntary programme , a batch of 40 volunteers/trainer’s per cycle (selection criteria is stringent*) of which I was a part , 50 hours of training in learner centered techniques practiced through micro teaching . Post the training, the trainer’s had to deliver the course to classes of learners allotted (managed by network of NGO’s/ tie-ups with educational institutions) for three months . As per the norms, I was allotted a batch of 25 learners (second year commerce students at The Tolani College of Commerce, Andheri). The overall experience was enriching & fruitful.
After the successful completion of the programme, I was offered an opportunity in teaching as Full time Faculty with the Self –Financing Section of The Tolani College. I served in the said capacity & taught commerce subjects to the BFM (Bachelors of Financial Management) students for a period of 6 months ( Second half of the academic year 2016-17) , also was a guide & assessed the final year projects.
With the changing scenario in the teaching domain & a motive to contribute towards the field of education in a constructive & unique way I enrolled for & successfully completed ‘The Basic Course in Instructional Design’ (a 4 credit online course) , 80 sessions offered by The SNDT University, Education Technology Department .
In light of the above & considering topics being revised/upgraded as per school curriculum to meet the globalization needs , changing geographies & challenging career options available . I intend to take Social Studies incl. Civics & Economics
