About Ansh
Who I Am & Why I Share I am an Indian classical vocalist, a post-graduate in Music from Bhatkhande University, Lucknow, and a disciple of Pandit Ritesh Mishra Ji of the Banaras Gharana. My teaching ethos is grounded in spiritual depth, meditative practice, and a devotion to tradition. I share my knowledge because teaching not only deepens understanding—for both student and teacher—but it fosters growth, connection, and lifelong learning. By opening the doorway to soulful vocal practice, I empower others to journey inward, sound by sacred sound, while enriching my own understanding and purpose. Teaching, for me, is both a spiritual offering and a path to collective harmony.

I guide students of Indian classical music to go beyond technique, embracing riyaz as a meditative sadhana—a disciplined, soulful practice that cultivates spiritual depth and inner stillness. Each lesson transforms into a space for mindfulness, where breath, posture, and vocal resonance align to nurture presence and emotional clarity. Using deep listening techniques, I encourage students to connect with the emotional essence of ragas, helping them absorb and express musical nuances through focused introspection and creative visualization. This approach harmonizes technical rigor with spiritual immersion, guiding learners toward a meditative experience of sound. Teaching Structure: Indian Classical Music 1. Opening Centering (5 mins) Begin each session with a mindful pause—deep breathing or a moment of stillness—to ground students in a calm, attentive state before they start vocal practice. 2. Foundational Warm-up Swar: Practice the seven notes—Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni—with attention to tone, pitch, and resonance, using a drone for pitch anchoring. Alankars: Explore basic patterns and sequences to develop vocal agility around the notes. 3. Introduction to Raga & Tala Raga Essentials: Introduce melodic frameworks—e.g., understanding aroha/avaroha, pakad, mood (rasa), and parent thaat systems. Tala Fundamentals: Explore rhythmic cycles like Teental, Dadra, and Rupak—understand beat cycles, theka, and engaging rhythm through recitation. 4. Meditative Raga Exploration Alap & Improvisation: Guide a meditative, unmetered exploration of the raga (begin with slow alap, gradually exploring medium and fast tempos). Spacing & Breath: Encourage use of pauses, silence, and breath to deepen introspection and expressive nuance. 5. Structured Compositions & Ornamentation Bandish & Light Forms: Learn fixed compositions and light/classical styles like Thumri or Dadra to connect theory with emotional expression. Ornamentation Techniques: Practice meend (glides), gamak (oscillations), murki/grace notes—essential for soulful phrasing. 6. Rhythmic Integration & Improvisation Taan and Layakari: Introduce rhythmic complexities—fast melodic runs and variations within tala cycles—to build technical agility. Call-and-Response: Use interaction with accompanist to teach rhythm coordination and improvisational dialogue. 7. Creative Expression & Reflection Student-Led Freestyle: Encourage students to improvise or sing a short passage in the raga, fostering creativity and confidence. Reflective Listening: Listen — either to recordings or peer performances — and invite mindful reflection on emotional and meditative impact. 8. Closing Grounding End with a reflective pause or gentle vocal hum to anchor the practice and integrate spiritual insights with musical technique. Special Features of My Teaching Approach 1. Meditative Sadhana Through Sound I draw on the concept of Nada Yoga, where music is more than art—it's a spiritual discipline. By guiding students through alap and focused swara exploration, each note becomes a bridge to inner stillness and self-realization Moolatattva. Lessons often begin with a deliberate silence or gentle chanting, setting a meditative tone where sound merges with breath and presence. 2. Therapeutic and Cognitive Benefits Raga-based practice, rooted in Raga Therapy, not only nurtures emotional healing but also induces calm and meditative states in both student and learner. Research shows chanting significantly enhances attention, working memory, and concentration, reinforcing the brain’s cognitive capabilities. The “sonic philosophy” movement underscores how rhythmic vocal techniques—like chanting—boost focus, emotional balance, and memory retention in educational environments. 3. Disciplined Practice as Ritual Riyaz (systematic, disciplined practice) forms the backbone of my teaching philosophy. Under this, students cultivate vocal refinement and mastery through mindful repetition and rigor. The routine transforms technical training into a spiritual ritual, blending devotion and discipline seamlessly. 4. Lineage as Living Tradition I uphold the guru–shishya parampara, where knowledge is passed orally and mindfully, as in the Vedic traditions—anchoring learning in deep listening and precise transmission. 5. Emotional Intelligence & Inner Connection My method encourages students to explore and express bhava (emotion) and rasa (emotional flavor), fostering emotional intelligence and self-regulation through music. Indian classical music becomes not only a tool for artistic growth, but a mirror for introspection, empathy, and personal healing. Who These Classes Are For Children & Teens: Ideal for young learners eager to explore their cultural roots, develop focus, memory, and emotional expression through ragas, rhythm, and tradition. Adults: Whether you're looking for a fulfilling hobby, stress relief, or a meaningful creative pursuit, adult learners—regardless of prior experience—benefit from cognitive sharpening, emotional balance, and renewed connection to heritage. Seniors: Music offers significant therapeutic value—slowing cognitive decline, evoking cherished memories, and promoting well-being through the meditative power of ragas.
