About Kiana
I’m Kiana, and I’ve loved physics since I watched my first space shuttle launch from a Florida beach as a kid. I’ve been teaching physics for 8 years, and 6 of them have been online. I studied Physics at the University of North Florida and earned my M.Ed. in Science Education from the University of Florida. I hold a Florida teaching certificate in Physics for grades 6–12. I spent two years as an engineering technician at a company near Naval Air Station Jacksonville, testing how aircraft parts respond to vibration, and I taught Physics and Physical Science for four years at a Duval County high school. I now teach part-time at Florida State College at Jacksonville. I’m proud of a fifth grader who built a wave tank from a baking pan and of a high schooler who timed boat wakes on the St. Johns River for her science fair. Students say I’m patient, funny and good at making hard ideas feel small.

Hi there! If physics has ever felt like a foreign language, you’re exactly who I enjoy working with. I explain every new word the first time I use it, and I never assume you already know it. We start with something you can picture, like a wave rolling under a pier, and then we build up to the formulas, so they actually make sense. I help with school physics, honors, AP and college courses, plus science fair projects and homework that has you stuck. If you have a test coming, bring the study guide and we’ll make a plan together. Lessons are live on video with a shared whiteboard, and afterward I send you a photo of the board so you can study from our real work. Our favorite activity is Pier Wave Watch: you watch waves, boat wakes or even ripples in a bathtub, time them with a phone and learn how speed, wavelength and frequency fit together.
