About William
I am a writer, film photographer and creativity specialist, and am currently studying for an MA in photography at the Royal College of Art.
Although I have always been a creative person, it has been a long journey to get to a place in my life where I understand the way that creativity works, the demands it places on me, and what I need to do in order to hold myself accountable, work in an organised and disciplined way, and how to represent myself to the world as a confident creative person.
There are so many distractions now, and we all have other obligations to manage, not to mention the fact that the arts and creativity are often discouraged in our schools and universities. I am passionate about sharing what I have learned, and about supporting other creatives to overcome these difficulties, so that they can build the lives they deserve.
I am 37 and live in North Oxford with my wife.

How do I integrate my life as an artist with the demands of my ordinary, day-to-day life? Can I call myself an 'artist'? What does it even mean to be an artist in 2024? Why can't I finish anything? Why is it so difficult to concentrate? How do I build up a routine for my creative work?
These are profound questions that we all face as creative individuals. All too often our doubts and limiting beliefs - whether around money or art itself, instilled in us during childhood - get the better of us and block us from building up the momentum we need in order to feel good about our creativity.
So-called technical ability is something that comes with practice, and although I am available to teach technique for writing and photography, most of my work with students concerns the creative life itself - how we become artists, how we finish our projects, and how we build a life around our creativity. For most of us, having the confidence and organisation to believe in ourselves as creatives, end procrastination, and make take action towards our goals, is the missing part of the puzzle.
Together we will:
-Get clearer on our motivations for making the work we do, and how we might explain our ideas to others.
-Work out how we represent ourselves as creative individuals to the world.
-Figure out our core values. These are the essential principles that we will need to return to whenever we feel directionless, distracted or dispirited, in order to continue making impactful work. These values remind us why we are making work.
-Work on how you might build a sustainable daily practice as an artist that empowers you to execute your ideas.
-Re-set our ability to concentrate, so that our brains release dopamine when we work, rather than when we scroll or watch television.
-Begin to work towards how you might monetise your creativity and build the future you deserve.
I welcome enquiries from students of all ages and levels of experience. There is no age or time of life better than any other for beginning to get serious about being an artist. Developing and maintaining one's creative practice is a life-long task. Start today - whether you are at school, university, working a job, have a hectic family life, or have simply come to the decision that now is the moment to invest in yourself and your ambitions.
Although my own work is in film photography and writing, I work with students with interests across a broad range of disciplines. The strategies needed to develop and maintain a productive artistic life are the same, whether you are a painter, a photographer, a poet, a contemporary dancer, a ceramist, or a someone who knits.
I also love to work with students on bringing specific projects to life, on everything from the development of ideas, to looking for new influences and ideas, and to setting up a clear plan of action and a schedule that will keep the student accountable as they work towards their creative goals.
Sessions are 1 hour in length, and I am available by message outside of lessons to help keep you on track with your projects and creative life.
