About Dr Gemma

Hi! I'm a university researcher with a PhD in Psychology and experience teaching psychology, research methods and statistics to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

I'm an Associate Fellow of Advance HE (AFHEA), a professional recognition for educators who teach and support learning in higher education.

My specialisms are Developmental and Clinical Psychology, but I'm confident across all areas of psychology, including research design and data analysis. I can also help you develop your academic writing, from structuring an argument, to critically evaluating evidence and writing up your results.

I teach in an interactive, activity-based way. We'll use real-world examples, critical evaluation, and theory to explore topics in a supportive environment, so you can work towards your own learning goals with confidence.

I offer a free introductory lesson, so do get in touch!

About the class

I'm passionate about education, and I want learning to be engaging and enjoyable. As a Teaching Associate for undergraduate students, and through my higher education teaching training, I use evidence-based techniques designed to help you understand ideas and remember them for longer.

My lessons suit undergraduate and postgraduate students at any level. After an initial consultation, I'll tailor each session to your needs, whether that's:

- Understanding difficult theories or concepts
- Planning a dissertation or research project
- Getting to grips with statistics (SPSS, R, or other statistical programs)
- Advice on essays, lab reports, and academic writing
- Revising for exams

Sessions usually last 1–2 hours, depending on your preference.

Perfect! I've been having regular lessons with Gemma and I can't recommend her enough! As someone with ADHD, she makes learning very accessible for me. She goes above and beyond, making quizzes at the end of our sessions to make sure I've understood properly, helps me with notes, creates flowcharts and schedules and is all-round makes me feel comfortable as she is easy to talk to and very friendly. On top of all this, she is very motivated, engaging and affordable. Honestly could not have asked for a better tutor - she is amazing!

Perfect! Gemma supported me in my MSc. module on statistics. She was extremely patient and understanding throughout the lessons. She explained things thoroughly and wasn't annoyed to have to have to explain further if needed. Gemma is very knowledgeable on statistics (and psychology in general) and goes above and beyond to help you reach your goals. Thanks Gemma. I got a distinction mark in my module.

Perfect! I can’t speak highly enough of Gemma’s tutorage. I’ve had several lessons so far, and hope to have many more. Lessons are well structured and organised, and tailored to my academic learning requirements as an undergraduate student. Gemma has a knack for explaining complex, difficult material, and makes sure to check/test my understanding. She really knows her stuff! It’s a joy to have found such a knowledgeable, friendly, patient and professional tutor. A real ‘super’ prof! Highly recommended!

Perfect! Gemma is a kind, patient and lovely tutor. I’m an older psychology student with number/maths difficulties. I was on the edge of a meltdown when I decided to seek help and I can’t thank Gemma enough. She explained statistics in a way that I could not only understand but enjoy as well. She helped me to understand stats and hugely helped me with my confidence. I could not recommend Gemma enough!
