I am a PhD graduate in English Literature (Cambridge University), having specialised in the field of Shakespeare studies.
I have tutored for over a decade, teaching students across various levels, from entry exams for secondary school, up to university undergraduate level. I am new to this specific platform.
I have worked as a freelancer in the British theatre industry, having also completed an MA degree at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and a BA degree at the University of Durham).
The lesson rate is £40 per hour, with lessons being delivered online. I offer a free introductory session, prior to beginning lessons.
My approach to lessons is relaxed, yet focused. When preparing students for exams, the framework for study is drawn directly from the demands of the specific exam board, and from past papers, examiner reports, and mark schemes. I have tutored pupils for GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A-Level exams across a range of exam boards including: AQA; Edexcel; OCR; WJEC/Eduqas; and Cambridge.
Lessons can range in approach, from the theory of texts, to essay writing and exam skills, depending on each pupil's requirements. I am happy to also set homework, mark past paper essays, in response to the amount of work that a pupil is able to produce.
Given the coverage of my previous degree studies, I can offer extensive revision of the theory behind texts being studied. This becomes especially prominent at A-Level. Areas of previous focus have included: the Brontës; Shakespeare and the wider English Renaissance (e.g. Marlowe, Raleigh); Romanticism (e.g. Keats, Blake); Jane Austen; Metaphysicals (e.g. Marvell, Milton); American Literature (e.g. Fitzgerald, Steinbeck); American Poetry (e.g. Dickinson, Whitman); War Poetry (e.g. Owen, Sassoon); the Short Story (e.g. Poe, Carver); Contemporary Poetry (e.g. Duffy, Armitage); and Drama (a very full range, from Greek theatre, to contemporary British plays).
