About Silas
I am currently a Grade 11 student at W.J. Mouat Secondary School enrolled in the French immersion program. I recently completed French 11 at the top of my class, consistently maintaining strong academic performance throughout my immersion studies.
Outside of academics, I am passionate about music. I have taught myself both guitar and drums, and I actively play drums at my church. Teaching myself instruments has strengthened my patience, discipline, and ability to break down complex skills into simple, manageable steps, which is something I bring into my tutoring.
I genuinely enjoy working with younger students and connecting with them through different subjects and interests. Over the past several years, I have participated in multiple summer camps where I worked closely with children. My approach is simple yet effective: break concepts down step-by-step, practice together, and build confidence through repetition and real examples. I focus on making grammar easy to understand instead of overwhelming students with memorization.
A typical lesson includes a quick review, one focused on concept, personalized practice, and short speaking activities to build confidence.
What sets me apart is that I am actively in the immersion system during high school right now. I know the curriculum well, test formats, and how to succeed. My goal isn’t just better grades but helping students feel confident in their approach to a new language.
