I start by listening—I ask the student what they already know and how they think about the topic. That quick “mind-map” tells me their current mindset and lets me gauge their comfort level. From there I pick a real-life example that mirrors the concept. I let the student try to answer first, then gently guide them to the right idea. Each correct step gets a quick “well done!” to build confidence; any slip is turned into a learning moment, not a failure. I keep the pace light: one idea, a short demo, a couple of practice problems, then a quick recap. If the student is a school-level learner, I focus on solid fundamentals; if they’re heading to college, I link those basics to the higher-level topics they’ll meet later, always stressing understanding over rote memorization.
