About Aaron

I’m a German and Spanish student at the University of Oxford, and I’ve been through the Oxford Modern Languages admissions process myself.

My degree involves the close study of literature, translation and language, with regular tutorials that require me to analyse unfamiliar material, develop arguments and respond to challenging questions.

I’ve also been involved in university outreach and access activities, which has sparked my interest in making the Oxford admissions process more accessible and helping prospective students understand what studying at the university actually involves.

Having experienced Oxford’s tutorial system firsthand, I can offer an insight into the kind of independent thinking, close reading and academic discussion that studying Modern Languages requires.

About the class

I offer online Oxford admissions interview preparation for students applying to study German, Spanish or Modern Languages as part of a joint degree, including combinations such as History and Spanish.

Sessions are tailored to your chosen course, academic interests and the areas you would most like to improve.

Depending on your needs, we can work on:

* Mock interviews: practising unfamiliar questions in an interview-style setting, followed by detailed, individual feedback.
* Literary analysis: reading unfamiliar poetry and prose, developing interpretations and supporting them with textual evidence.
* Language and translation exercises: discussing grammar, translation choices and linguistic features in German or Spanish.
* Academic discussion: explaining your reasoning, responding to follow-up questions and considering alternative interpretations.
* Personal statement discussion: preparing to talk thoughtfully about your academic interests, wider reading and reasons for choosing your course.

For joint honours applicants, I focus on the Modern Languages component of the admissions process.

I aim to help students become more comfortable thinking aloud, responding to unfamiliar material and developing their own arguments, rather than memorising prepared answers.

Sessions are available for 60, 90 or 120 minutes. Longer sessions allow time for mock interviews, detailed feedback and follow-up exercises, particularly when working through more challenging literary passages or discussing multiple topics.
