About Elena
I am a concert pianist and piano educator with 23 years of teaching experience, from private work with students of very different levels to university-level teaching at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music.
I graduated with honours from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music and later completed postgraduate studies there. For more than twenty years, I performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Russia and internationally across Europe, Asia and South America.
I received First Prizes at the Salieri–Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Italy and the Max Reger International Chamber Music Competition in Germany, and recorded two chamber music albums for the Melodiya label.
My teaching is rooted in the Russian academic piano tradition, but what defines my work most clearly is the way I approach music itself. I teach it as a system and a language, helping students see the musical logic behind the notation and develop a progressively freer relationship with the score and the instrument.
The most valuable part of playing the piano is the feeling of genuinely owning the music: being able to enter its world, experience it fully and bring your own musical hearing to life at the instrument. My role as a teacher is to make the path from the score to that state as direct and natural as possible.
I work online in English with motivated teenagers and adults, from beginners to advanced players, including returning pianists and students preparing for examinations, auditions and performances.

You can spend years learning one new piece after another and still remain at roughly the same level: reading note by note, struggling to see the connections within the music, and feeling dependent on a teacher.
I do not believe this should be the normal outcome of piano lessons.
My aim is to develop musicians who understand what they are doing and gradually gain genuine freedom at the instrument. Reading, technique and musical understanding develop together, so that less attention is consumed by the process of decoding and executing the score — and more becomes available for the music itself.
With beginners, I teach students to read musical patterns rather than individual notes, so that score reading becomes fluent and natural. At the same time, they learn to understand how music works from the inside, gradually developing a freer command of its language.
For pianists who already play but feel they have reached a plateau, I identify what is actually limiting further progress. Difficulties that appear separate are often connected. I look for the underlying cause and build the work around it.
After a long break, much of the previous experience is still there, but in a fragmented form. I bring it back into active use, identify the genuine gaps and organise what remains into a working system from which the student can move forward.
With advanced students, I work at a professional level, including mental practice and principles from Stanislavski’s system.
I also prepare students for RCM, ABRSM and Trinity examinations, music-school and conservatory assessments, auditions and performances.
The introductory 30-minute meeting offered through Superprof is used to discuss your goals, previous experience and whether my approach is the right fit. The first full working lesson allows me to assess your current foundation and establish the most useful direction of work.
Regular lessons take place weekly. I work with students interested in consistent development over time.

Details
Lessons are scheduled on a regular weekly basis and paid monthly in advance. Depending on the calendar, a month may include four or five lessons.
