About Nada

I am Jordanian, a native Arabic speaker, and I live in London. I have recently completed a Master’s in Humanitarianism, Aid and Conflict at SOAS, University of London, and before that spent five years working in humanitarian and development programmes across Jordan, Syria and Türkiye — work conducted largely in Arabic, with colleagues and partners from across the region.
That experience shapes how I teach. Arabic is not one language but a spectrum, running from the formal register of the news and the classroom to the dialect spoken around a kitchen table in Amman, and learning it well means knowing which register belongs where. I enjoy teaching that distinction, and students tend to progress fastest once they stop treating it as a complication and start treating it as a choice.
I am patient with beginners and direct with students who want to be corrected. Tell me what you are trying to achieve — an exam, reading a text in the original, working in the region, or speaking with family — and I will build the lessons around it.

I teach both Modern Standard Arabic and Levantine dialect, and we decide together which you need. Modern Standard if you are reading, writing or working with formal texts and media; Levantine if you want to hold a conversation in Amman, Beirut or Damascus. Many students work on both.

Lessons are built around what you want to do with the language rather than around a fixed textbook. For beginners that means the alphabet, pronunciation and sentence structure from the ground up, at a pace that lets the script become comfortable before anything is rushed. For intermediate and advanced learners it means sustained conversation, reading real material — news, reports, interviews and correcting the habits that have settled in.

I also offer Arabic for professional and academic purposes: the vocabulary of policy, humanitarian work, human rights and current affairs. I spent five years working across Jordan, Syria and Türkiye, and hold a Master’s from SOAS, University of London, so I can teach the language as it is actually used in those settings rather than only as it appears in a course book.
Lessons are available online or in person in west London, and I provide all materials.
