About Mari
Ever since my own music theory lessons in a group setting, I always availed myself to help any peers that I found were struggling. There are plenty of skilled musicians who are much better when it comes to learning things by ear, but some just can't seem to get how to read sheet music. I've always had a passion for sharing my music theory knowledge with other musicians, especially as a staff cadet in the summer training music program. When adult staff instructors who were normally assigned to teach music theory to the course cadets needed someone to cover for them, I was one of the first staff cadets they would ask. Now as an adult instructor for the navy league cadet program (ages nine to twelve), I look forward to teaching music theory to them on a regular basis.

If you know nothing about how to read music, this is the place for you! Whether you are just starting to learn music theory or preparing to enter a post-secondary music program, any beginner or intermediate level is welcome :)
Once I understand where you are at, a typical lesson would involve the instruction of a particular concept followed by some exercises to practice. We can follow along a step-by-step program approach or you can provide questions ahead of time that I can provide lessons for (anything from the notes on the lines and spaces of the treble clef to dominant seventh chords)!
I can make up tests to review knowledge if that's something you are interested in, but I'm also fine to just keep going in helping you develop your music theory skills. I will do my best to be flexible to your needs to provide the best learning environment for you.
