About Mike
I'm not a traditional classroom teacher. I'm a musician who picked up the guitar nearly 25 years ago, fell in love with it, and have since gigged professionally in function and original bands for many years - at festivals, charity and corporate events, weddings, and countless gigs in between.
I'm a self-professed metalhead, which has been the foundation of my learning the instrument. My technique, knowledge of music theory, and how that applied to the guitar, came from my obsession with it. Most of all - it's just good fun.
That obsession carried me into the worlds of jazz, hip hop, electronic music, and much in between, and into university, where I gained a First Class Bachelor's degree in Popular Music from the University of South Wales.

I structure my lessons around your passions and interests in the guitar - whether that's exploring chord voicings and progressions, playing technique, applying music theory to the guitar, writing songs, preparing for grade exams, or how I learnt - helping you play the songs you love.
This isn't my first teaching gig - beyond teaching guitar, I also taught squash to kids aged 9-15 for many years in my local leisure centre. I love helping people hone their talents, realise their creativity, and have fun while doing it.
I teach mainly online, but if you're based in and around the Weston-super-Mare area, I can travel to you in-person.
For kids - I provide structured lessons that build confidence, creativity, skill, and individuality. Zero boredom, lots of fun, any and all skill sets.
For adults - lessons are tailored to your goals, at your pace, whether you're just picking up the guitar for the first time, or you've been playing for years and wanting to focus on a specific skill.
Lessons are 50 minutes, and my first lesson is always free. I also offer 15 minute exploratory calls before any bookings, free of charge, to find out more about you/your child, what you're looking to get from your lessons, and answer any questions you may have.
