About Nishay
My name is Nishay. I'm an MCAT Tutor, writing teacher, hockey coach, and graduate of UC Santa Barbara, where I majored in Psych & Brain Sciences and minored in History. During college, I was a pre-med, but about a year later, I decided to pivot to law. I'm now pursuing a J.D. at UC Davis School of Law, but I still love teaching CARS, so I don't have any plans to stop.
I grew up in San Francisco. I love playing ice hockey because I saw a movie with a hockey playing chimpanzee and, well, monkey see, monkey do. I also love traveling, audiobooks, and memory (i.e. memorizing large amounts of fairly useless information for fun, such as cards or digits of pi). I didn't go through the traditional educational journey to get to UCSB, instead doing no formal education until my early teens, then taking City College classes rather than going to high school. I definitely had a non-traditional path to college, but the varied experience I got is something I am very happy about.

Tutoring sessions of any desired frequency. During sessions, we will assess your ability on the CARS section and figure out how you can best improve. We will discuss strategies and drills, as well as review past practice questions and passages. Each week we will reassess where you're at and what can be done to give you the greatest improvement. I also give you assignments and drills, which will be designed to reinforce what we discuss in our meetings and to help find every area that can be improved. I also offer a free consultation if you would like to discuss your goals, challenges, and questions about my tutoring before beginning tutoring sessions. Perfect! Nishay is very good at CARS, but he doesn't expect me to approach cars the way he does. I've had a few CARS tutors and I've noticed they all have figured out an approach that works for them and therefore favour that approach and teach that methodology. Nishay doesn't do that. He observes my approach and works with me like a coach. He can give suggestions for ways to improve based on what has worked with his past students and coaching experience. And also, he himself is very good at CARS and can do passages and demonstrate how he might think about it. I would definitely recommend him if this is the area in your MCAT studies that you would like to improve on.
