About Christopher

I studied Mathematical Sciences at Durham, where I finished top of my year, and then took an MPhil in Data Intensive Science at Cambridge, graduating with a Distinction. My undergraduate dissertation was on the pure mathematics underpinning quantum mechanics, and for my master's thesis I built computer vision models to detect cancer in CT scans. In both, I greatly enjoyed the communication aspect.

Finding and clearly communicating an explanation for a concept so that it makes sense to someone else has interested me for many years, and it's the part of teaching I love most.

After my master's I worked for a Brisbane-based startup building AI tools for teachers, to help students get the most from their education.

I teach through conversation. I ask questions that lead your child towards the answer, so they understand why a method works rather than memorising the steps.

When something hasn't clicked, we take the time to find the gap in understanding in order to strengthen the core and build up. I believe that the importance of memorisation is overemphasised and that understanding the WHY always beats remembering the how.

I teach GCSE and A Level Maths, Further Maths, and Statistics for any exam board, and have experience teaching both.

Lessons are 60 minutes, online or in person in central and south London.
