About Maria
Having just successfully completed my PhD, and working for two years as a Research Associate in Medical Image Processing, I am writing to you to express my interest for the position of a personal tutor in this site. My academic qualifications and my work experiences have allowed me to mature into a knowledgeable, creative and open minded individual, with the ideal mentality to work as a personal tutor in the UK.
I believe that my academic experiences over the last years have enabled me to acquire the skills that are sought after a tutoring position in this site. During my PhD and Post-Doctorate position, I published scientific results and attended and presented research findings at internal academic meetings and external professional conferences, developing my analytical and presentational skills. Whilst working together with physicists, chemists, biologists, engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians and clinicians in a highly cross-disciplinary way, I developed my ability to communicate effectively as part of the image processing team within the Division of Imaging Sciences & Biomedical Engineering and the clinical cardiology team within Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS foundation Trust.
Furthermore, while doing my PhD I was involved in the supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students, working as a teaching assistant in Biomedical Engineering practicals/tutorials for the Anatomy & Physiology, Matlab and Computational Imaging Science modules as well as a tutor providing private tuition in Physics and Mathematics. During my Post-Doctorate position I was involved in lecturing iBSc students on their Computational Imaging Science course. I have also worked as a personal tutor in Kensington & Chelsea Tutors Ltd and Tavistock tutors offering personal tuition in Maths and Physics. This allowed me to develop my time management and organization skills. I improved my lateral thinking ability, communication skills and reasoning ability. I acquired the ability to work autonomously in the planning and execution of my own work and under
the guidance of my employer.
