The first lesson of martial arts is to disengage. Second is breath monitoring and control. If you can't breathe, you can't fight. Let's learn how to breathe in a combat situation. Third lesson is, all fights go to the ground, so one must be comfortable handling the opponent on the ground. Let's build your ground game. Fourth lesson is a well-placed kick can end your opponent. So let's get your kicks in order. Fifth lesson is open palm strikes and elbows can end the fight if kicks can't. So let's condition your elbows. Sixth lesson is your knees are a lethal weapon. Let's learn knee strikes. Seventh lesson is headbutts, there is a reason headbutts are illegal in MMA. Good thing there is no referee on the streets. Eighth lesson is your ground game again. Grappling on the ground will neutralize the threat of a larger opponent. So let's drill ground rigorously. Ninth lesson is flow. Once you master the basic strikes and holds, you practice them so that you get into your own flow.
