About Zachary

I am currently the bass trombonist of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and have performed with many top orchestras around the country, including The Cleveland Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and more.

I have a Bachelor of Music Performance (Bass Trombone) from Appalachian State University. I also hold a Master of Music Performance (Bass Trombone) degree, which I earned from the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with Mr. Randall Hawes, formerly of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. I was also a member of the Orchestral Career Fellowship program at CIM.

I have been an orchestral fellow at Aspen Music Festival ('21 +'22), National Orchestral Institute ('23), and Music Academy of the West ('24). I have many years of experience teaching private lessons to students of all ages, from beginners to advanced college level students. I was the trombone faculty member at the Appalachian State University Community Music School and low brass instructor at the Cleveland School of the Arts.

About the class

I teach my lessons based around what the student enjoys playing, while also helping to give the student insight into how to practice and be efficient while doing so.

Fundamentals are a large part of what I do, so expect to gain some fresh, fun exercises to improve your playing and help round out your fundamental routine!

I believe in always playing with a beautiful, effortless sound, no matter the circumstances. We are musicians first, and low brass players second.
