I am 25 years old, having learned chess when I was 7 from my father. I played chess recreationally, representing my secondary school, junior college and college in various tournaments.

My chess journey truly started with the rise of online resources to chess around 2020. I took chess more seriously and I went from scoring 3.5-4/7 in local tournaments to 5 and sometimes 6+/7 in local tournaments against strong opponents.

I am still learning and improving as well and practical experience trumps all theoretical memory. The top playing list in most tournaments are familiar faces. To ensure my skills remain relevant, I am an active participant in the Singapore chess scene, and if you frequently play tournaments, you would definitely have walked by me at least once.

My chess journey continues, and I offer my layered experience from above average chess player to tournament prize contender.

The most important piece of advice I can offer is that losses in tournaments teach you more about chess than anything else. I strongly encourage you to participate in a local tournament as I feel chess is a social sport.

About the class

Chess is a game of passion above everything else.
no matter where you start, you must first be ready to accept temporary ELO loss and losing games.

(700-1100 elo chess.com)
for beginners: we focus on basic opening principles such as controlling the center, developing pieces, king safety etc.

(1100-1800 elo chess.com)
for intermediates, we move on to calculation exercises or puzzles, starting with mate in x puzzles to find common ideas to win the game.
we will also practice common endgame patterns as a chess game is usually won (or lost) at this stage.

Beyond this, we will do calculation exercises to improve vision on the board, to visualize moves ahead without playing it on the board. From here, I will encourage you to go for FIDE rated tournaments as there is no better way to test your mettle!
