About Talie
I am a Physics undergraduate at Durham University, where I averaged 82.5% in my first year. Having achieved three A*s at A-Level in Physics, Maths and Computer Science, I know what it takes to succeed in one of the toughest A-Levels out there.
Many students think Physics is all about the maths. In reality, the maths doesn't extend much beyond GCSE. What most students struggle with is the conceptual understanding: knowing why a particular equation applies, what the question is really asking, and how different ideas link together. Being good with a tool isn't very useful if you don't know where (or why) to use it.
My tutoring style is built around what helped me most: understanding the underlying science. Once you understand the physics, unfamiliar questions become far less intimidating, confidence grows, and the marks tend to follow. My aim isn't to teach you how to memorise mark schemes, but to help you understand the subject well enough that you can think your way through problems yourself.
Lessons are centred around active problem-solving. Rather than simply explaining everything to you, I'll ask you to explain your thinking, justify your reasoning and work through questions with me. A simple question like "Why?" often tells us much more than whether an answer is right or wrong.
Struggling with Physics isn't a lack of information. YouTube is free for everyone.
The real challenges are often the human ones:

Every lesson is online using Google Meet, where I'll have my camera on so we can talk things through naturally. I'll share my iPad screen and write everything in real time using a stylus, almost as if we're sat together working on the same sheet of paper.
Rather than spending the whole lesson talking at you, we'll work through questions together. Sometimes we'll use past paper questions; other times I'll use my own slides or resources to introduce a difficult topic before putting it into practice. My aim isn't for you to watch me solve Physics questions – it's for you to learn how to solve them yourself.
You'll probably hear me ask one question more than any other:
"OK... why?"
If you can explain why you're doing something, you've probably understood it. If not, we've found exactly what we need to work on.
By the end of each lesson, you'll leave knowing what you've improved, what still needs work, and often with a few optional questions to reinforce what we've covered.
