Every rally relies on seven basic skills, from the grip to the return of serve.

• Grip and stance: how you hold the bat and stand ready at the table.
• Footwork: short, quick steps that place you behind every ball.
• Forehand and backhand drives: steady, repeatable swings that form the base of your game.
• Serve and spin: topspin, backspin and sidespin start every point.

With one-to-one tuition, a tutor corrects small errors early, before they turn into habits.

Learning table tennis works best with a clear plan and short, frequent sessions.

• Choose a suitable bat: a comfortable rubber and handle help you learn the right grip.
• Learn the basic strokes: begin with the forehand and backhand push and drive.
• Repeat simple drills: short daily routines are easier to keep up than long, rare sessions.
• Play practice matches: games teach you serves, placement and how to stay calm under pressure.
