About Jiao
- What kind of experience do you have?
When I was in Uni in Beijing, I tutored students of various backgrounds Chinese. I accumulated 3 years of part-time tutoring experience during my time in Uni.
I am also teaching Chinese Mandarin in a Chinese school on saturdays and tutoring both adults and children during weekdays.
I also teach Chinese to fourt year English students at University of Leeds.

Yes.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Some of my students are children aged 5-6. One of them has been learning Chinese for 2 years. I started to teach them with colours, numbers, fruits and now they are learning simple sentences and I use teaching materials from China to tutor them.
I have a few adults students as well. Some of them have been to China and now are learning Chinese with me and some of them have been teaching themselves before learning with me. It's great to see their passion in learning the lanuage and know about the culture.

A language is the crystal of a culture. To learn a language is the beginning of getting to know a culture. I am proud of speaking my mother tongue Chinese and I am also lucky to speak English fluently to introduce my culture to other people and to teach my language to people who are keen to learn Chinese. To learn the language and get to know the culture where the language is embedded, you will receive things beyond your expections!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach beginners' Chinese, spoken Chinese, Chinese for children, and university level Chinese language.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I went to a university in Beijing which is famous for foreign students to learn Chinese. I graduated with an MA in Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies from the University of Leeds.
- How much do you charge?
I charge 25 pounds for one adult. Price varies according to the number of students in a group.
I charge 20 pounds for children.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at public places such as a cafe or a university campus (i.e. University of Leeds). I prefer to teach in Leeds but can also travel to other areas around Leeds.
- When are you available?
I am available in the evenings during weekdays and saturday whole day or sunday afternoons.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
various ages and beginners' levels intermediate and advanced levels.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I would like to discuss with you online for half an hour (free of charge) about your learning (i.e. what level you are, what text book you would like to use, what subject do you like to study and so on.)
- Do you have a personal message for students?
It's never too late to start to learn a language and I am learning Russian myself at the moment. If you are determined to learn something different regardless reasons behind it, I do encourage you to go ahead. As you make efforts and use the right way to learn, you will benefit from it and the fruits you harvest can be beyond your imagination.
