Intelligent
1. The term ‘intelligent device’ is used to describe a package containing either a complete measurement system, or else a component within a measurement system, which incorporate a digital process.
2. Processing of the output of measurement sensor to correct for errors inherent in the measurement process bring about large improvements in measurement accuracy.
3. Such intelligent devices are known by various names such as intelligent instrument, smart sensor and smart transmitter.
Smart Transducers
1. Transducers are sensors and actuators in order that a computer system can interact with the physical environment.
2. An intelligent or smart transducer is the integration of an analog or digital sensor or actuator element, a processing unit, and a communication interface.
3. A sensor, the smart transducer transforms the raw sensor signal to a standardized digital representation, checks and calibrates the signal, and transmits this digital signal to its users via a standardized communication protocol.
