I consider a student a clean slate, meaning he/she is familiar with basic concepts from previous standards but nothing more. I like to start by making students understand why a particular topic is taught and how they will apply it in their future education. Then comes the concepts, the theory, the formulas with detailed various examples to include all kinds of possible questions. I also try to not bore students with a lot of information.
