I'm currently taking on new Maths students in May/June 2026 after the GCSE and A-level exams with a view to those new students carrying on in the new school year starting September 2026.
I provide home tuition in Ivybridge, Plymouth, Kingsbridge, Modbury, Plympton, Plymstock, South Brent, Aveton Gifford, Ermington, Bittaford and the surrounding areas and online tuition via Teams and Whatsapp.
I am a Ph.D. qualified DBS-checked Mathematician with many years tutoring experience from primary through to GCSE, A-level and adult students. I pride myself on my friendly and easy-going manner, my ability to quickly establish a rapport and a good working relationship with families and students and have excellent results with my students.

He goes through questions carefully and ensures that I understand the method of how to solve the problem. If ever I struggled to understand a certain topic he would break it down and make it simpler to understand. The lessons also contained enjoyable puzzles and games to have a bit of a break from some of the heavier maths. He is very experienced tutor who is very concise , analytical and organised. Very professional and precise with his timings.

Simon has really helped my son to progress. He was finding some areas of the subject difficult to grasp and Simon was able to tutor him through each step. He explains the work really clearly and ensures that by the end of the session concepts have been completely understood.
Simon has a calm approach and his teaching is highly effective. My daughter was struggling with Maths in class. Since having lessons with Simon it has really helped her to keep up and achieve consistently good marks. Simon is very reliable with lesson times and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
Simon has taught my son since Year 8 when he became bored and confused by a particular teacher who caused him to doubt his Maths ability and switch off from the teaching which meant he fell to the bottom of his set. Simon has renewed my son’s confidence in his Maths as well as supporting him through the increasingly difficult content - he is back near the top of his set as he prepares to sit his GCSEs.

Simon's home tuition has helped my 11 year old daughter immensely. From being in a bottom maths group through lack of confidence and just complete blind panic when the subject was raised she has just completed her SATs with a level 5 result and whilst she's never going to love maths Simon has shown her and given her the confidence to know she can do it! He's patient, thoroughly supportive, pointing out only the positives. I am in no doubt that she would not have achieved this level without him!
