About the class

I hold a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford, an MSc in Political Theory from the London School of Economics and a PGCE (Secondary Mathematics) from the University of Warwick. Since university, I have worked in teaching, financial modelling and most recently for the Civil Service, on the graduate Fast Stream. I am a keen fencer and have a great love of reading and travelling.

I have tutored a number of students in mathematics over the last six years, at a wide range of levels and have a track record of success in helping students achieve their targets. In particular, I have supported students in achieving A grades at mathematics A Level and level 6 in year 6 SATS. I additionally have a year’s experience in teaching mathematics in a secondary school at all levels and in leading special classes for the most able pupils in a primary school over a summer.

I always ensure that my lessons are meticulously planned and form part of a larger scheme of work, with clear goals. After each lesson, I make sure to review and adapt this to align with the ongoing progress of the student and discuss this with the pupil and parent.

In my view, some of the most important parts of being a good tutor are high quality feedback and regular progress checks to ensure understanding. I always make sure to fully check for understanding and reinforce learning from previous lessons and give detailed feedback about how a pupil can improve. I am always available to answer questions outside of lesson time.

I teach mathematics up to A Level, secondary school entrance exams and Philosophy and Politics up to undergraduate level.
