About Phoebe
I am a passionate and approachable educator who genuinely enjoys helping children build confidence in their learning. I have several years of experience working with primary-aged children, and I find it incredibly rewarding to support them as they develop their reading, writing, spelling, and phonics skills.
I have always had a love for reading and creative activities, which I bring into my teaching to make lessons engaging and enjoyable. I believe children learn best when they feel relaxed and encouraged, so I aim to create a calm, positive environment where they feel comfortable to try, make mistakes, and grow in confidence.
Through my experience in both mainstream and SEND settings, I have developed a patient and flexible approach. I understand that every child is different, and I take the time to get to know each learner so I can support them in a way that works best for them.
Outside of tutoring and working within a school, I enjoy creative hobbies such as crochet and knitting, as well as horse riding. I also work closely with animals and care for a variety of different species, which has helped me develop a strong sense of responsibility, patience, and empathy—qualities that I bring into my teaching every day.
I am a strong advocate for building a love of reading and writing from an early age, and I love helping children discover that learning can be both enjoyable and rewarding.

My approach to tutoring primary-aged learners online is centred on making learning engaging, interactive, and confidence-building. I aim to create a positive and supportive environment where children feel comfortable participating, asking questions, and developing their skills at their own pace. I understand that young learners thrive when lessons are varied and encouraging, so I prioritise keeping sessions lively, structured, and rewarding.
I use a child-centred and highly visual approach to support learning in reading, writing, spelling, and phonics. My teaching methods include:
-Breaking learning into small, manageable steps to build confidence
-Using phonics-based strategies to support reading and spelling development
-Modelling reading and writing before guiding children through shared practice
-Using repetition and retrieval to reinforce key skills
-Incorporating games, interactive activities, and visual prompts to maintain engagement in an online setting
-Providing immediate, positive feedback to celebrate progress and address misconceptions.
I place a strong emphasis on phonics and early reading skills, helping children to decode words, improve fluency, and develop comprehension. In writing, I support learners in building sentences, using accurate spelling, and expressing their ideas clearly.
Lessons typically last 1 hour, allowing enough time to cover key skills in reading, writing, spelling, and phonics without rushing. Where appropriate, sessions can be extended to provide additional support or deeper practice, depending on the learner’s needs and concentration levels. Each session follows a clear structure:
-A short warm-up or recap activity
-Focused teaching input (e.g. phonics, spelling rule, or writing skill)
-Interactive practice activities
-A review to reinforce learning and celebrate success
I have several years of experience working with primary-aged children in educational settings, including both mainstream and SEND environments. I have supported learners with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, and dyslexia, and I am confident in adapting my teaching to suit different learning styles. As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), I have delivered targeted interventions, phonics support, and small group teaching sessions to help children progress in English.
My lessons are designed for:
-Primary school children (ages 4–11)
-Learners developing early reading and phonics skills
-Children who need support with spelling and writing
-Students who may need extra confidence or targeted support, including those with SEND or EAL.
Each session is tailored to the individual child’s needs, ensuring they feel supported, motivated, and proud of their progress.
