About Laavanyaa
I have seen children being forced to rote learn language rules, word meanings, definitions and stories with little conceptual understanding or love for the language. This would make learning any language very drab.
In grade 5, I had to change schools from a Hindi speaking crowd to an English medium one. Everyone conversed in English and mistakes were ridiculed by my unkind classmates. This shattered my self confidence but slowly, I learnt to speak as well as I wrote.
The only reason I could achieve this was because my basics were clear and I had massive exposure to the language everyday.
The lack of an option made led to me having a strong command over English that happens to be my third language.
Cut to me in college and at work, I have been praised for communication skills.
I am here to help children experience that learning English is just a language that they can master with will, time and practise.

My approach is to learning and teaching any language is the same as any other skill. We will initially assess what you do well and where you need to improve. In some cases, students are very aware of where the strengths and areag of growths lie. However, there are instances where children are made to falsely believe that learning something is beyond their control and ability which is untrue.
We will build a shared understanding with the challenges you face (is it reading, vocabulary, interest, fear, comprehension or fluency), how did that first happen and why did the challenges persist. Finally, and the easy part is of how can we solve for them together after correctly identifying the gaps.
My classes are a mix bag of resources I create and those that are available online. It is focused on reinforcing what you enjoy (some like watching videos over writing) but also getting is comfortable with aspects we don't enjoy intuitively.
There is a lot of independent work and practice for the young learners to hone their existing skills.
I have experience of using the American Common Core standards, ICSE, CBSE and Maharashtra State board curriculum.
