About Sophia
I am currently a student at Harvard College studying government and sociology. I have been playing chess for 15 years. I learned at age 4 and played competitively from 1st-6th grade, traveling across the country for tournaments and competing in state and national championships. Since then I switched to playing recreationally and instead tutoring chess in order to share my love for it with others.

I learned chess at a very young age, and this makes me especially effective at teaching young learners and beginners. I craft lesson plans to students and their experience, and am happy to teach students with no prior chess knowledge or students who have basic knowledge and are looking to learn strategy and improve. In the past I have taught students by following chess.com lesson plans and using that to supplement learning, however I find that having a teacher such as myself in addition to that makes learning significantly easier and smoother, especially for beginners.
Learning chess has been important for me beyond just knowing how to play the game - it has taught me patience, strategy, logic, problem-solving, grit, and hard work, and I would love to help others learn the same.

$30/hour, +$20/hour per additional student (happy to conduct group lessons with up to four students, however two students is ideal). Lessons can be held in half hour or full hour segments.
