About Thomas
I completed my PhD in English in 2022, after which I worked as a Lecturer at a UK university for two years. My teaching experience spans a range of cognate disciplines, including English Literature, Film Studies, Media Studies and Sociology. My area of specialist knowledge is in gender studies and queer studies, in which I focused on representation in horror fiction, film and digital media. I aim to be a welcoming and friendly tutor, who believes firmly in my role as a tutor to finding your way into a subject. I take great pleasure in seeing my student succeed in overcoming obstacles in their learning, and pride myself on my capability to support that development.

I take a student-centred approach when designing learning. We will first spend some time determining what you want from tutorials, after which I will design appropriate sessions. Lessons will typically be an hour long, though this can be adjusted based on your needs. I have four years of teaching experience from working as a Lecturer and Associate Lecturer in universities. I have taught on English Literature, Film Studies, Media & Cultural Studies, and Sociology degree programmes at first, second and third years. On these programmes, I taught on core survey and theory modules that introduce students to essential concepts for those degree programmes. In addition, I taught on modules that developed students' study and researching skills. I have experience teaching A-level and GCSE pupils from performing outreach work, having designed programmes of study that acted as advanced booster sessions on core curricular materials in English classes.
