About Ruth
I am a passionate violin tutor with 7 years of teaching and professional music experience, committed to helping students grow as technically skilled, confident, and expressive musicians.
I teach school and college students at all levels, from beginners learning their first notes to advanced learners preparing for recitals, competitions, and exams.
One of the most rewarding milestones in my career has been seeing students develop from uncertain beginners into confident performers capable of playing with technical skill, expression, and emotional depth.
My teaching emphasises strong technical foundations, including posture, finger placement, bowing technique, rhythm, tone, and intonation, while also nurturing creativity, musical interpretation, and expressive performance. I incorporate music theory, sight-reading, listening exercises, and performance practice to provide a comprehensive and well-rounded understanding of music.
Lessons are tailored to each student’s pace, learning style, and goals, creating a supportive, patient, and inspiring environment. Teaching violin allows me to inspire confidence, foster discipline, and cultivate a lifelong love for music in every student.

I teach violin using a methodology focused on motivation, communication, creativity, and integrity, designed to nurture technically proficient, expressive, and confident musicians.
Lessons are personalised for each student, combining structured technical exercises, creative projects, improvisation, and performance preparation.
Motivation is essential to my approach. I guide students in setting realistic goals, monitoring their progress, and celebrating milestones. This fosters engagement, perseverance, self-confidence, and a love for learning and performing music.
Communication ensures lessons are collaborative, interactive, and supportive. Students are encouraged to ask questions, discuss challenges, and explore ideas freely, cultivating a strong teacher-student partnership.
Creativity is a cornerstone of my teaching. Improvisation, composition, and interpretation exercises allow students to develop a personal artistic voice and build a deeper emotional connection with music. Integrity emphasises disciplined, responsible practice and respect for learning, helping students develop long-term habits for success.
Alongside violin, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, rhythm exercises, and piano, giving students a well-rounded foundation for both performance and musical understanding. My methodology ensures students grow technically, creatively, emotionally, and personally.
