About Aaron
Academically, I hold a dual BA in Anthropology and Art History from Temple University, and an MA in Asian Art History and Curatorial Studies from the University of Chicago. As an undergraduate, I was lucky to study art history firsthand in both Italy and Japan. My Master's thesis examined depictions of the "modern woman" in interwar nihonga (Japanese-style painting), reading them as expressions of anxieties about modernization, militarism, and state-defined gender roles.
Professionally, I served as a graduate Art History Teaching Assistant during my MA, and I've spent my career in art and museum settings. I currently work as a gallery and art platform director in New York, and I've previously held curatorial, development, and executive roles at museums in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Connecticut.
My professors always said I gravitated toward the material and anthropological side of art: the objects themselves, who made them, and how people lived with them. I think that's what makes art click for people, and I genuinely love helping others see more in it. Art is so cool!! Art is one of the few real forms of time travel, a way to connect with people and ways of thinking across time and space!!!

My lessons can be tailored toward your goals, so I invite you to reach out to discuss your specific needs. I will say that my approach toward Art History focuses heavily on materiality/medium/context as the starting point.
I am most immediately poised to assist with art history exams, essay proofreading and art-analysis guidance, art history presentation support, and course load assistance. I'm equipped to assist either online or in-person. I prefer to visit museums in-person whenever relevant.
My first lesson usually is a more informal meeting to better assess what your needs are and how I can help! From there on, we can discuss longer-term goals if any.
