About Andres

Talent and inspiration will only take a song so far. The rest is craft, and craft can be taught.

I've been writing, recording and releasing music for more than 20 years, and teaching songwriting for more than 15 of them. I trained in rock, pop, folk, jazz, funk and everything in between at conservatoire and university level, and hold a BMus (Hons) in Music Performance and Production, specialising in songwriting. Along the way I've written, arranged and produced records with my own band and composed the score for a feature film. Right now I'm writing for two projects due for release soon, so the craft I teach is the craft I use every week.

Most of my teaching has been one-to-one and online, with songwriters all over the world. Some write purely for themselves. Many now write, record and release their own music regularly, including some who came to me with nothing more than a single voice memo.

What I do best is hear what's working in your song, what isn't and why, then give you the tools to fix it yourself. I teach in English, Spanish, French and Italian, so you can write in the language you think in.

About the class

Every song you write with me is a small project, taken as far as you want to take it.

We start by finding out where you are as a writer, what music moves you, how much time you really have and what you want your songs to become. From there I build a plan around you, and we adjust it as you grow.

Along the way you'll learn the craft, techniques and tools professional songwriters actually use. Depending on your goals, we might work on:
- finding and developing ideas, so you're never stuck staring at a blank page
- song structure: verses, choruses and bridges that build and pay off
- lyrics that say what you mean, and melodies people remember
- chords, harmony and rhythm that serve the song
- arrangement and orchestration, so the song sounds as good as it does in your head
- recording, from a simple home demo to a finished track
- releasing your music, if and when you're ready

Every lesson ends with clear next steps for your song, so you always know what to work on and why. Lessons are one-to-one and online, for first-time writers to experienced songwriters.

He has an organised structured way of teaching which provide the rhythm and theory instruction needed in order to progress.
