About Me: From Struggling Student to H1 Mentor
For a long time, Irish felt like a puzzle with missing pieces. Like many students, I spent years sitting in class feeling overwhelmed by grammar rules that were never properly explained, moving from primary to secondary and being overwhelmed from the get go. I was surviving rather than actual understanding.
Everything changed when I reached my Leaving Certificate. I understood that I could not “wing it” and had to understand the why. By stripping the language down to its foundations and rebuilding my knowledge from the ground up, the "impossible" became intuitive. Resulting in going from a merit in Junior cycle to achieving a H1, including a 94% in my Oral exam.
My Teaching Philosophy
In school, Irish is taught like a subject and not a language. My goal is to bridge the gap between "knowing Irish" and "scoring high."
What My Grinds Focus On:
- The "Why" of Grammar: simplifying the rules of the grammar so students are very confident while under pressure.
- Building upon oral exam confidence.
